Where can I get web development training?

I started my own website for my non-profit organization, but need to learn about coding and designing, and anything else with web design. If there are any free resources out there, please let me know! I have too many full time jobs already, so can only do this online. Help, thanks.

http://www.w3schools.com is a good place to start. The quality of the material ranges from excellent to terrible. If you're doing any server-side programming, be aware that all server-side languages seem to have decent websites with lots of documentation.





For HTML and CSS reference, I like http://www.blooberry.com/indexdot .





And of course, remember to check the standards documents at http://www.w3.org .





Other than that...look at well-designed websites and learn from them. Also remember that there are lots of excellent books you might want to read (particularly those published by O'Reilly).

Reply:Well there are many places that you should start.





As far as design goes a few top programs I use are Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Adobe Illustrator is a great program for drawing freehand objects like cartoons or company logos. If you are a talented artist you could draw a logo, scan it in, and then trace it with Adobe Illustrator very easily





As far as development goes the FIRST things you should focus on are XHTML and CSS. If you don't know anything about these I highly recommend getting a beginner book on XHTML/CSS. There are tons of them at your nearest Barnes %26amp; Noble or Borders store.





As far as development goes... there is a vast variety to choose from. If you are looking for the quick free solutions... PHP and MySQL are great ways to get started.





If you are looking to build skills and potentially get a job as a developer then I highly recommend ASP .NET C#. The salaries for these developers are through the roof right now.





Another coding language that is very easy to use is ColdFusion. It resembles simple HTML markup.





All of these will take a good amount of time and practice to learn. No matter how much you read or learn you're definitely going to have to jump in and start messing around yourself.
