I'm interested in learning about web development and would like to know which are the best technologies to learn. ASP, PHP, HTML, XHTML, CSS, .NET, JavaScript, Java, other?
I want to learn about web development, what technologies are best to learn?
i would add some flavor of SQL to your list and i think you are set.
if you are a windows person, put your emphasis in learning the tools and languages from microsoft, since they will be the most time consuming to learn. if you are an open source or Linux or mac person, then there are more than ample resources available, probably right on your computer now! ASP and .NET will make you valuable in the workplace, but you'll find that PHP, SQL, JSP, X/HTML, and CSS will do everything ASP and .NET can do for you, sometimes simpler and more reusable.
also remember to study your audience. most people still use internet explorer, so be aware that those are the people who will shout the loudest if things on your web site don't work well. IE supports most new web technologies.
Reply:If you are starting from scratch i would suggest XHTML. It similar to HTML but cleaner and works well with XML.
After that you should learn XML, Java, and JSP. These three are platform independent unlike ASP which is dependent on a microsoft platform. XML is very easy to learn. Java and JSP might be difficult in the beginning but become easy once you understand the logic.
With java you can learn how to create applets and servlets and produce XML data automatically from your database.
For the database you could study MySql (which can be downloaded for free) or SQL. Both are easy to learn. SQL is again platform dependent. You need a microsoft server operating system to install it.
Javascript would be good to learn if you are going to have forms on your website. You could use it to validate forms among other things.
If you learn the above you will be good enough to design a powerful website. Later you can learn things like flash, graphics software but you can leave that to others unless you want to do everything.
Reply:in java there are jsp servlets...
in microsoft asp asp.net...C#
php is also there...
Reply:While most web development is still done in HTML, the popularity of development of dynamic web sites is done using HTML, a scripting language such as PHP and a SQL database for persisent storage. Javascript and CSS are also useful for browsers that support them, but do not assume that they exist or are enabled.
Reply:Web Basic:
XHTML + CSS
Web Programming:
Client Side: Javascript
Server Side: PHP
Reply:try ASP .net if u want to work for Microsoft plateform or PHP for open source. others can be used with any of them.
Reply:You want to leant HTML first before anything, once you're comfotable with that, move onto JAVA and PHP. Be warned, JAVA and PHP are evil, well, I've had trouble with them anyways lol.
Reply:You've got a good start...
add FLASH to the list... and GOOD LUCK.
Reply:You should learn PHP,Java, and any database
