Does anyone know where I can take a class about css web development in northern utah?

I want to find classes for beginners about html, and css web site development.

Does anyone know where I can take a class about css web development in northern utah?
Where at in Northern Utah? some resources you might want to google are, "Granite school district, continuing education," "Jordan School District, continuing education."

The University of Utah, and Utah State, both have satellite campuses all over the state. They teach both degree-seeking, and non-matriculated students.

BYU has some community education, but I think you have to sign a pledge not to drink booze or coffee while attending. Plus their football team cheats.
Reply:Or else you may contact a web designer at websites like http://getafreelnacer.com/ to teach you css.

What is a consultant job or contract job versus new hire in the web development field?

I am 54 and wants to learn web development %26amp; database. Now I was told that I will have more chance as consultant.

Is that mean I can apply for job asking rfor a a "copntract"? like in dice.com? Anything asking for a contract of 3 months , 6 months up to 1 year is a consultant job or contact?

Thx.

What is a consultant job or contract job versus new hire in the web development field?
As a "new hire", the company would add you to their payroll and pay workers comp, taxes, and training etc. This is expensive for a company. As an independent contractor, consultant, or contract position, you are your own boss, pay your own taxes and health insurance, and the company's only obligation is to pay you when the work is done. %26lt;br%26gt;

Check out your community college. They are good places to learn database development, provide an independent means of showing you know what you are doing, and can giv eyou a realistic outlook on employment within the iT field within your area.
Reply:consultant means you are there till the project is done. contract means a set amount of time. And new hire just means you are part of their company.

There are also contract to hire that let companies keep you on if you are impressive enough.

I'm new at freelance web development. How much you should think I would charge for a project?

I'm new at freelance web development. How much you should think I would charge for a project? Any formulas that you use would be good. Also if you can share how you charge for your works that would be good too. Thanks.

We have the same problem!

You know what I did? I went out and checked several web developers around malls, used the telephone when possible, and i listed down every detail that i heard from all these developers. (Something like canvassing, I even posted as a customer and told them my requirements for me to get an idea on their charging schemes) Eventually I collated all the information that I have gathered and based from this, I came up with my own pricing scheme that offer similar packages at lower prices in comparison to other professional developers. In other words, "Know your competitor!"

Try it out! This method also works for other forms of bussinesses.
Reply:Depends entirely on the complexity of the project.
Reply:I agree with the previous answer, it all depends on the website.

I am an ASP %26amp; PHP programmer and if i was creating a "back end" for a website to allow the owner to update certain aspects of the "front end" i would start the basic price @ 500 pounds then depending on what needed to be programmed i would add onto that cost.

At 49 years old Should I choose a Web Development career or a System Administration one?

Please be honest with me. I have very little IT background and I am in the hotel industry( night auditor).

Is Web Development an option for me at my age or should I go head %26amp; prepare myself for a microsoft certification to brecome a Windows Administrator?

At 49 years old Should I choose a Web Development career or a System Administration one?
Honestly? OK. At 49 years old, what the hell are you doing asking for career advice on Yahoo? Talk to a professional career counselor. Your family is depending on you to make a better effort than this.
Reply:#1: your age has nothing to do with anything.

#2: do what you like and fits best with your lifestyle. there are plenty of opportunities in both fields but both take dramatically different paths. if your passion is in design and you have a bit of an artistic side, web development would suit you. if you like to make things work and keep things working then go with a sys admin job. hope that helps.
Reply:What does your age have to do with anything?? You should just choose the one you want most. Stop limiting yourself.
Reply:If you have very little IT background you're going to need to get moving fast. It's very hard to find entry level development positions. Even companies asking for an entry level developer want someone with 2 years experience. A systems admin might be easier to achieve becuase there are a ton of entry level support positions %26amp; that will be the foot in the door to eventually becoming an admin.
Reply:IMHO, Web Development can lead two ways. You can become your own boss and write websites for others, or you will be relegated to a 9-5 grind employee.

Sys admin on the other hand would be more of a management position, and if you're reasonably intelligent you can do very well in this field with proper certification.

I don't do either by the way, this is just opinion

I'm a C# programmer I want to transition into web development but have no experience...how do I start ?

I know I would need to start as an entry level, which is tough given i've got 10+ years development experience. However, I'm willing to take that step backward. I just would like to know where I should begin and how I can convince an employer to hire a web developer with very little web development experience.....Thanks for any info/advice provided !

The easiest way is to take courses and get a degree or certificate while you are continuing your work as a programmer. Then apply within the company that you are working.

It will be more difficult to start all over from scratch. Hopefully you have some connections from your previous employment to get you started.

What is the most easy to learn: Linux administration or web development?

I am a 48 PC Technician and would like to switch into the Linux or Windows Administration field. But I was wondering if the web development would be also a good alternative? If yes some recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What is the most easy to learn: Linux administration or web development?
Web development is definitely easier, however, this means that there is plenty of competition.

If you can train yourself to become a solid Linux admin, you will have less trouble finding jobs that pay well in the long run.
Reply:Learning the mechanics is easy, but the nuances take a life time to learn.

That applies to both webdev and admin. I'd choose Linux admin if I were good at following the rules and making others follow the rules as well. If I were a creative person, I'd take webdev.

Both offer a good window to enter into serious programming. Try that in your spare time.
Reply:Web development. Easy and fun.
Reply:Linux admin!

Linux is more mature today and corporations are moving to a linux platform more and more......Home Depot is 100% linux at their stores!

Web development is ok, but as Open SOurce solutions come together, this job will be less and less important.
Reply:Web dev is much easier, but more web dev jobs are being outsourced to India.

Thanks, George.

Master grad with interest in Web development. Suggestions on how to apply for job?

I do have a Masters grad. But I do not really have any solid experience in JAVA and Web development. Thought I am interested in the field, I am experienced only for about 6 months in it. Any help on who to approach, how to apply for jobs, websites to search from, where to submit resumes etc. ?

Many thanks.

Master grad with interest in Web development. Suggestions on how to apply for job?
You will need more experience than that to actually get a well paid web development job. First, volunteer your time and skills to companies looking for people to build websites for free. With a masters degree and 6 month experience, they'll think you're a steal. Get more experience thru there if possible.

If this is not an option, then look at job sites such as indeed.com, monster.com, dice.com and look for entry-level web development jobs.

I'm already an assistant web developer but I still have A LOT to learn. I run my own ecommerce site and I hope it will really take off soon. I ultimately want a career in web development and I'd like for business to grow. What is the ideal college major for me?

What is the ideal college major for someone pursuing a career in Web Development?
Computer (or Management) Information Systems if offered, if not Computer Science

They offer not only the computer aspect of the web development, but a management and marketing side to it as well.
