I took a computer programming class and was truly lost.Would it be unwise to seek a degree in web development?

It depends very much on your temperament. I don't want to dissuade you on one bad class, but you have to decide for yourself. Do you like figuring out how the computer works? Do you consider yourself very logical minded?

If understanding how information is processed is interesting, it will be worth the effort. If you find reading software boring, the job will drive you insane.

People who like to tinker do very well.

It might be worthwhile to try one other course, maybe in a difference language or at least with a different instructor. Since you are having trouble early, I wouldn't bet the farm though.

NO! Go for it. I can't draw either but once I took photoshop I realized how to get art out of my head and on the screen. I own a web design business. I wasn't sure what aspect of computers I wanted to go into either when I started. Web design just fit. Html editors help a lot. There is a lot to web design though. If you want to learn how to do something and think you won't need additional schooling you are kidding yourself. In the technology field, software, marketing and standards seem to change by the minute. You can't possibly learn proficiently all the aspects of web design so concentrate on what you like. Be really good at it and keep an open mind. You will see how it all fits together in your html classes. Take it from there.
Reply:I suggest you keep away from it. If you're already confused and are not generally an artistic person, also if you're not patient enough, this is not path for you! There are tons of other things out there to do with computers. If you /are/ a patient person, go ahead and try to learn some HTML and CSS. Note that "teaching" yourself truly is the best way. Buy some books-even those "learn HTML in a month!" books help. After you get a hang of it, go ahead and start playing around with codes from blogs and other websites. NOTICE i'm saying play around with them-ABSOLUTELY DO NOT STEAL OR RE-PRODUCE THEM. :]
Reply:If that's really what you want, I would try again and see if it comes to you. You said you had problems with a visual class. You might want to check with a Dr. to see if you have Attention Defisit Disorder. A friend of mine had the same problem trying to under her work and found out she had ADD. Since she has been to the Dr. she's been doing great.
